After the superb Leaving Las Vegas, director Mike Figgis took a misstep with this annoying drama about 1990s relationships and how a brief indiscretion can have lasting consequences. It's not that the cast (which includes Wesley Snipes, Nastassja Kinski, Kyle MacLachlan and Wen Ming-Na) puts a foot wrong; it's just that the characters they play are so irritating. As unfaithful husband Snipes wanders in and out of other people's lives, it's Robert Downey Jr, as Snipes's dying friend, who makes the major impact out of a minor role. Thankfully, Figgis came back to form with one of the most technically innovative movies ever made, Timecode 2000.
"...Figgis is a master cinematic storyteller. Here he creates drama with his camera in the breathtaking opening scenes..."
I've seen this film a number of times. What can't you like? great story! great drama! great direction! great action!
It's a film that just tells a story, and doesn't try to be anything that it's not. I highly recommend it.

Whether it's Britney taking clippers to her hair, Whitney turning her multi-million dollar home into a crack den, or the bad joke that was Anna Nicole Smith's short life, the headlines are as lurid as the lawyers will allow, and we all feel that combination of pity and awe that is said to be the essence of tragedy. Hollywood wisdom has it that audiences won't sit for unhappy endings,... Read more
