Aside from a love for hoops, it would seem that Lucas (Chad Michael Murray, Dawson's Creek, Gilmore Girls), House Of Wax) and Nathan (James Lafferty, Emeril) are two young men with little in common, but they are bound by the dark secret that they share the same father.
Arrogant and assured, Nathan is the star of the high school basketball team and hails from a wealthy family. Quiet and driven, Lucas is the only child of a single working mom. He is also a legendary playground basketball player.
After growing up on opposite sides of the tracks in the same small town of Tree Hill, North Carolina, the two boys' lives suddenly collide when a twist of fate puts Lucas on Nathan's high school basketball team and the half-brothers compete, not only for control of the court, but also for the heart of Nathan's beautiful girlfriend Peyton Sawyer.

Then this is for you! Powerful storylines, stimulating, thought-provoking. Sets a new standard for teen drama, so easy to relate to even if you aren't a jock (although there's plenty for you too!). Strong young cast, who feel what they're acting. In summary, for all teens (and those who wish they still were...) who've ever been in love, or tried to work out who they are. Just brilliant
My response to the first three episodes of this series was that its premise (the main boy being a local rich guy's illegitimate son, and his mother still not able to get over her failed high school romance after 15 years) felt contrived and outdated. And there wasn't much going on with the plot besides the plight of these two characters who are seen as the scum of their community. For some reason, even the adults in One Tree Hill still haven't moved on from the phase where high school means everything, and all the teenagers seem to do is fight and snub each other. HOWEVER, about mid-way though the 4th episode I began to really like this show. Inexplicably, the adults became less like annoyingly shallow teenagers, and the teenagers started opening up rather than just trying to be cool. Finally, the real story began; enjoyable plots and relationships began to emerge! If you like shows like The OC and Smallville, stick with this one. The OC is more sophistocated, and nobody in One Tree Hill has superhuman powers, but One Tree Hill has its own charm. The characters become interesting, and are just quirky and winsome enough to care about. And of course, they are all good-looking. I would say the acting isn't sublime, but it's definitely good enough. I'm looking forward to watching the rest of the season.
