this dvd is superb. Ronnie Barker stars as Arkwright, a tight-fisted middle-aged Doncaster shopkeeper, while David Jason stars as Arkwright's nephew Granville, who makes the shop deliveries on the shop bicycle, just like in the 1930's, but this show is set in the 1970's.
the first episode called 'Full of Mysterious Promise' introduces us to the characters, which also includes the love of Arkwright's life - Nurse Gladys Emmanuel played by Lynda Baron.
In 'A Mattress on Wheels', Arkwright is tempted in to buying a van, to take Gladys out in.
In the episode called 'A Nice Cosy Little Disease' Arkwright decides to fake an illness, which he hopes will prompt Gladys Emmanuel to provide more than NHS standard TLC.
in 'Beware of the Dog' Arkwright responds to an attempted burglary, by his own unique methods.
In 'Well Catered Funeral', Arkwright's best friend dies, and he offers at cost to cater the funeral, mayhem ensues.
Finally, in 'Apples and Self Service', paranoia defeats Arkwright's attempts to move with the times.
this is a timeless classic british comedy. Ronnie Barker and David jason are wonderful in the roles of Arkwright and Granville. When Arkwright's is not saying Granville, f-fetch your cloth, he is making moves on his neighbour- Gladys,as cheaply as possible, of course. Arkwright never leaves his shop, and on the one occasion he did, he nearly injured himself with a tight money belt, but that is another story. this dvd is well worth renting out.
An excellent setting with a wonderful team of actors. Even 30 years later it is still goood. Well worth watching
