A delicious, Robert Altman-like mosaic
Although this was a french film with subtitles it had an excellent story line to it. A young girl finding new experiences and mixing with the theatrical famous with 3 seperate parts all coming to a conclusion involving the girl and the grandmother who's stories start the ball rolling. This is a good film but you need to watch it by yourself and read all the subtitles to fully understand the plot. Great.
This is a stylish romantic comedy built around a bubbly performance from gorgeous Cecile de France as the girl from the provinces who lands a waitressing job in central Paris at a bar which normally only hires male staff.
The film tells three stories as the determined waitress mixes with a popular TV actress, a wealthy art collector and a famous classical pianist who are each at some kind of emotional or professional crossroad in their lives. Unaware of their fame, her innocent involvement in their lives has a transforming effect on them and finally on her.
Its a charming ensemble piece with some lovely character performances from a fine cast of French actors. Paris looks great, theres a lot of fun (Sidney Pollack as an American film director has an excellent scene with a French soap star) and you know its all going to be tied up at the end.
Go with the flow and youll have some lively entertainment.
