Unlike your Branagh mega budget movies this is more austere and relies on fidelity. Therefore it is more for students and so on rather than someone looking for entertainment IMHO.
We rented this because some of my family are going to see the Lenny Henry stage production soon. So now they know what to expect. No that the plot is all that complicated.
Personally I couldn't endure the full three hours. So I am glad I'm not going with them!
Finally, don't take this the wrong way but most Othello productions jar with me. They keep harping on about this 'Moor' guy and yet the actor is seldom very 'Moor-like' IMHO. Still, at least it's not Orson Welles blacked up like we watched on YouTube!
If you want a really rivetting Shakespeare movie rent McKellen's Richard III. Stunning!
