Steven Seagal gets more dialogue than in all his other movies put together in this lukewarm attempt to give him a lot more heart and soul. He plays a Brooklyn cop with the comedic name of Gino Felino, who comes up against old neighbourhood foe William Forsythe, resulting in much retaliatory violence. Frankly, Seagal is no actor and his career has been founded upon his ability to look cool in combat situations, rather than convey the sort of softly spoken sadness he's aiming for here. There are plenty of adequate action scenes, but stabs at characterisation are a big mistake under the circumstances.
Despite the title, our hero is out for revenge, and the bloodier the better. The familiar theme is played out with the maximum amount of violence.
This is not your usual cop film. This is a gritty drama about a guy gone mental with a death wish. Segal plays a great part as an italian american who is respected by the mafia. A great film - very violent and very real (apart from the cool Segal kicks a whole bars ass) and worth a watch.
When you are relaxed, tired or just plain drunk - you don't want to think too hard. So stick on a Seagal movie & see some bad guys get their asses kicked. The whole point of this movie is to demonstrate how badly Seagal could whoop your ass if he had to. He can injur whole rooms full of gun wielding scum without breaking sweat. He is even more powerful & respected than his local mafia Don.
The women love him. He asks after an old female contact & she replies 'I can still get it wet'. Scripts like this come along every 30 years. Just so happens that Seagal did a number of these movies in 1 go. Great urban violent movie, makes you laugh at times & who doesn't like seeing scum dealt with as they should be! Great!
