Langourous romance set in Africa in the 20s with Danish baroness and future writer Karen Blixen being seduced first by the landscape (as are we) and then by white hunter Redford, not fooling anyone as an enigmatic Englishman. Although this serves as a great showcase for tasteful direction, sumptuous photography and an achingly wistful John Barry score, its greatest strength is to afford Streep one of her finest roles and, not unexpectedly, she rises to the challenge magnificently.
