OUTNUMBERED - DISAPPOINTED.
By GAJ (26 reviews) from Leicester , 25 Jan 2010[Highly rated reviewer]
Still absolutely enamoured by this series. It seems to go from strength to strength. The only down side I can see is as the children get older, will the show have the spark and be as spontaneous as it is now.
This Christmas special is brilliant and combines a range of topics which scratch the surface of some all too familiar problems we're all likely to encounter as we get older ourselves.
I think the opening gag from Dad 'They're not light sabers they're toilet brushes' sets the tone for another 40 minutes of brilliance from Guy Jenkins and Andy Hamilton. The writing is just so intuitive and the direction is brilliant in it's apparent simplicity of letting the lead characters just get on with it and create the comedy.
Why am I disappointed though? The DVD is just the Christmas Special. No extras, no gag reel. That's the only reason I can't give the DVD full marks. Apart from that gripe it's comedy to savour.- Was this review helpful to you?

(6)A shame it's so short
By Gray2 (198 reviews) , 05 May 2013Most rental DVDs are either a complete movie or a series of (say) six half hour TV programmes. So when it's just one programme of 40 minutes length it's a bit of a let-down. There weren't even any 'extras' on the DVD. But apart from being short, this was very enjoyable: hilarious characters and some great one-liners as always. And you have to wait to the very end to discover the significance of the 'Bang bang' song being sung before the start...- Was this review helpful to you?

Good but very short
By crispin40 (553 reviews) from Stirling, Scotland , 15 Jun 2011Still very amusing and made me laugh out loud but a very short disc with no extras. I hope there will be another series but the children are all getting older and their whimsical charm may wear off- Was this review helpful to you?

I've seen better
By CathPD (22 reviews) from Carlisle , 27 Jan 2011Typical 'Outnumbered' humour saves what isn't the best thought out seasonal episodes. There isn't much of a storyline; it could have been a lot more eventful than it actually was. What seems to be missing is the suspense. In a series episode you would normally expect to wonder what the kids would say next, or what they would do, and it keeps your attention. This, however, appears to be a lot more scripted. It's a shame really, as the semi-improvised acting is what makes the TV series so great! I might be wrong, it's just my perspective. Don't expect a laugh a minute, although it isn't completely lacking in humour I promise!- Was this review helpful to you?
