Dating from the post-Rambo period when Sylvester Stallone's career was in the doldrums, this tacky action adventure has its roots in that old Wallace Beery classic The Champ. Here, boxing is replaced by arm wrestling, as trucker Sly tries to re-establish a relationship with his military academy-trained son on a make-up or break trek across the States. The grapple scenes are so devoid of thrills that you long to return to the mushy melodramatics. It's slick enough, but you expect more from a script co-written by Stallone and the late Stirling Silliphant, who won an Oscar for his work on In the Heat of the Night.
Machismo with schmaltz. Stallone plays some dumb trucker, into arm-wrestling, whose cab is a mobile gym. Twelve years... read more on Time Out
Mundane melodrama which its star couldn't carry.
this is a really good movie
Not the best film by Sylvester Stallone, but very enjoyable to watch. I spotted this as a recommendation after watching another Stallone film, and remembering watching it a number of years ago, couldn't resist giving it another go. I was right to hire it as I thoroughly enjoyed watching. The film is quite predictable, but has a nice enough story and decent acting. Whilst there weren't really any surprises during the arm wrestles, it was still exciting stuff.
An obvious rip off of the Rocky franchise, full of cheesy music, below par acting and a hugely linear and predictable storyline. Nevertheless, if you know what to expect you are rewarded with a hilarious p*ss take that you will never forget. Plus, I have never seen such a great film about arm wrestling before.

If you enjoyed the Rocky movies then you will love this film. Heart warming storyline with pleanty of action. A very motivating film, Makes you think you can armwrestle anyone. Check out what John Grizzly likes to have for a pre match meal. Excellent Movie. Five stars
There's nothing like a good old 80's cheesy film, and this is certainly up there with the best! Really bad acting and script writings till dont stop this from being very watchable (at least in parts). Sly Stalone tries to catch up for lost time with his son who he has not seen in about 10 years as he fights to turn his life around by winning a major arm wrestling competition in America. A few good action sequences and lots of bar fights, always good!

I remember this film being really good as a kid but it wasn't as good now. It's still good to watch though, not all that great story but still entertaining.
Definitely a good one to watch if you like arm wrestling.
reaaly like this film, prob coz i love sly stallone, its a cheesy 80's type film with cheesy music but it has got a fab storyline, and it just tugs at your heartstrings.
def worth watching
This film reminds you of an era when most films were cheesy and predictable. Not bad, worth watching once. If you saw it many moons ago then give it another watch. Dont expect too many twists or suprises though.
A fab film from 1986.. Well worth viewing
