Why fix what's not broken?!?By kezzabezza (3 reviews) from Lowestoft , 05 Jan 2008
[Highly rated reviewer]If you've read the book and loved it, like i did, you'll be very disappointed with this film. Although i'm sure it happens all the time with Hollywood films, its only very loosely based on the book. Everything has been 'americanised'. In the book everything is set in Dublin with a lot of lovable and humourous characters which obviously the americans couldn't relate to so instead they've taken out a lot of characters which keep the book alive, added new ones which dont really fit into the story and completely changed the personalities of anyone else left in the film. There are some amusing parts of the film which keeps it moving at a steady pace, its not all bad. My friends recommended i read the book before seeing the film as they loved the book so much, but i strongly advise not to read it first if you're planning on watching the film because you'll be as annoyed as I am.
If you've never heard of the book but just want to watch because you like chick flicks then you will probably enjoy it, i probably would have.
A lighthearted chick flick to watch that you won't have to concentrate too much on.

Love itBy Miss_watson2012 (3 reviews) , 17 May 2013Amazing, love it as good this time as it was the first such a slushy chick flick a must see
Nothing SpecialBy Storymaker (14 reviews) , 05 May 2013I watched this all the way through, but at times i kind of had to force myself to continue watching, it had ups and downs and times when i nearly cried, but i think the director really could have played with the emotion more. If your looking for a 'story', I. e a plot, a beg/middle/end this might not be right for you. Not a bad watch, but could be better
Great film.By PurpleDaisy (9 reviews) from Derbbyshire , 02 Mar 2013Such a great emotional film. Loved every minute of it. The acting was really good and made you really feel for the characters in it. Could watch this film over and over again and never get bored of it.
Looking for a good film, I'd say look elsewhere.By KcAndLola (38 reviews) , 25 Jan 2013Oh dear... the book was cheesy and soppy but this film takes it to a whole new level. Pretty much a different story to the book, I felt this film was poorly acted, poorly scripted and really not worth the hype. I wouldn't say I loved the book by any means, but I would strongly advise not reading it if you want to enjoy the film as all the appeal of the characters in the book is lost on screen.
