This is nothing to do with the more recent Aussie film of the same name, though its story line follows vaguely similar fantasy-life lines. Keir Dullea, alias astronaut David Bowman in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: a Space Odyssey, comes down to earth to play a small-town hockey hero and ladies' man who leads a double life as the town's gunfighter. In his daydreams, anyway. Nicely acted by a cast which also includes Elizabeth Ashley, the film holds interest but never quite scales the same heights of escapist excellence as The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Amiable, though predictable, romantic comedy, with a few sideswipes at macho attitudes on the way.

    Sizzling charmer

It's hard to work out exactly what's so perfect about this film (unless of course you just accept that Hugh Jackman is too gorgeous for words). It's not particularly unusual or unpredictable but everyone plays their part beautifully, there are comic touches and good characters. For those who like their romance not too sugary sweet but perfect in the end this is a delight.

    A hidden gem

I discovered this film a few years ago and must admit I can watch it again and again. Other than the fact that it's lovely to see Hugh Jackman pre-Hollywood and totally Aussie, the supporting cast are all priceless. Claudia Karvan as the tomboy heroine is great, especially with her 80's walkman permanantly strung round her neck! It's like watching an extended version of The Flying Doctors but without the doctors...! If you like a good down to earth comedy romance, this is the film for you.

When this film started and i realised it was an outback, aussie, mills and boon, adaptation type film i thought oh no..but... The characters really grow on you especially hugh jackman, what a lovely role he plays, so far removed from his action hero stuff. the heroine takes a bit of getting used to and you begin to wonder what on earth he sees in her but again she too starts to worm her way into your affections. this could so easily have become a corny, embarrasing tale yet the actors and directors have turned it into something a little bit special.

    strictly for the girls

This was one of those feel-good films that was over too soon. I really enjoyed it. It was simple and sweet and I was feeling low, an ideal pick-me-up. So, if you don't want to be a film critic and be entertained, get this out and enjoy, pref on your own with box of chocs.

    Aussie humour at it's best!

If you enjoyed Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and Muriel's Wedding, this is a must-see. Featuring Hugh Jackman as an Outback truck driver who has secretly written a romance novel and tries to pass it off as the work of his tomboy friend.

The storyline can tend to be a bit formulaic, but the characters are hilarious and embarrassingly realistic.

    Loved it

I loved this film. It helps that it has sexy hugh jackman in it. I think its a easy classic film about what you have been searching for was in front of you all along.

    Enjoyable film

I really enjoyed this Australian film. Really easy going film with a nice storyline, good ators and excellent location. I would recommend this film if you want a simple, nice film.

    Oh dear...

I am a great Hugh Jackman fan but im soory this just isnt a good film. The plot is predictable, the acting poor and the production value negligable. There is no real reason for this film to exist, its a standard story - man writes story, pretends to be woman woman is contacted and so on. If you have seen animal attraction then this is the same story but set in Australia. If you are a fan then just watch this once if you are not then avoid like the plague. Not one to recomend unless your in a bad mood.

    Dismal

Really so dreary that 20 minutes of watching was all I could muster.
