This documentary by Mike Mills--who has directed acclaimed music videos for Moby, The Beastie Boys, Beck, Sonic Youth, and Air--takes a look at an important piece of Americana--the paperboy. Examining the tradition of the suburban newspaper carrier, Mills compares and contrasts the classic, Norman Rockwell-associated version of the paperboy with the contemporary, suburban, hip-hop/television influenced model. Spending time with a handful of newspaper carriers themselves, we get to see where they live, what their lives are like, and exactly what the job means to them. PAPERBOY won the Best Documentary award at the Santa Fe Film Festival.
