Better than what the critics say!
By JAMIOUSE (49 reviews) from PILMOOR, YORK , 30 Jun 2007[Highly rated reviewer]
Paradise Lost or Turistas as it was originally know suffered badly at the US box office. Hence it's renaming for the UK and other countries. The film was marketed as another Hostel style film, with gore galore and general nastiness.
The film is however as far from Hostel as you can get, and that's a good thing. Paradise has a story and charcters that altough are cliched are better viewing. The violence isn't the point of the film, like it was with Hostel. The violence only happens in the last 30 minutes or so and it's explained why, and makes sense why the tourists are been aducted.
It's better than what the critics said, rent it for yourself and find out.- Was this review helpful to you?

(294)Satisfying slasher flick
By TheWatchman (520 reviews) from Suburbia , 15 Dec 2012Ask yourself this question: do you like slasher films? If the answer is yes, then you probably enjoy daft youngsters getting stalked by killers, women running around in very little clothes, blood and gore and, of course, the most virtuous of the group surviving. Therefore, you will also probably like Paradise Lost, as it ticks all those boxes. Theres nothing new here a group of annoyingly fit backpackers goes to Brazil, only to stumble into somewhere they really wish they hadnt. I wont go into detail about what exactly the nasties want from them, but its no advert for the Brazilian tourist board. Saying the film is just average would be a little unfair. Its definitely better than the vast majority of B-movie, cash-in, slasher films, but its no masterpiece. Basically, if you enjoy the genre, you should enjoy this one.- Was this review helpful to you?

Very Very Good
By MikeyTurner (17 reviews) from Portsmouth , 14 Sep 2011Pure genius from start to finish. Stunning scenery and location. Lots of bikinis and lots of blood and gore. Even the acting is very good which is unusual for films like this. The story has been done before but i think this is probably the best attempt. Never gets boring and keeps you interested from start to finish. Extremely enjoyable.- Was this review helpful to you?
