(58)careful with that half-pipe
By kevil9 (120 reviews) from Glasgow , 19 Oct 2012For those sad, delusional few who think GVS is a talented film-maker/director
Dreary, dull despite the intriguing notion of being eaten by guilt. The flaw is that it is such an internal matter that just never gets to grab the viewer and stir any empathy with the character
The sheer pretentiousness of the 'death' trilogy idea should be a blaring siren to all would-be renters
Even lovers of social realism films may struggle to be positive about the dilemas of adolescence that are meant to be realistic and convincing here- Was this review helpful to you?

Skating to success
By ricoh (94 reviews) from Calne , 31 Jul 2012I thought this was an interesting film, and was superbly shot. I can't believe the disparaging remarks about the acting. I thought it was good.
Not a film i would rave about but was worth watching.- Was this review helpful to you?

Boring and terribly acted
By a customer from Nottingham, England , 22 Nov 2011This film is terrible, the acting is awful the lead actor reads his lines like he is reading them off a slow defective autocue, the lead actor gives his character no warmth, feeling or emotion so it is difficult to get involved with the film and by the end - which i may just add is one of the worst endings to any film ever, well by the end you have given up hope you want it all to end so you can get on with doing something more entertaining and rewarding with your life. Another problem i had with the film was the over-use of slow-motion and musical interludes cut with random scenes of kids skateboarding, we get the point he likes skateboarding!
All in all a truely dull, uninspiring and ultimately pointless film devoid of believability due to the lack of acting talent on show, avoid like the plague people!.- Was this review helpful to you?

Half-pipe Dostoevsky
By Stephen from North Cornelly, South Wales , 30 May 2011What is interesting in this film is the technology that allowed the filming of some remarkable skate-boarding scenes - montages shown in slow motion for maximum effect and placed against an interesting and atmospheric sound track.
What is not interesting is the Dostoevsky-lite meanderings of the central character - a juvenile-lead in the truest sense of the word.
The crime is every bit as shocking as that of Raskolnikov - and a great pity that we have to see the aftermath in such detail (although again, what a stunning piece of technological cinema).
The personal recriminations never hit home - and has the only advantage over Crime and Punishment of occupying a much smaller section of my evening than I might have anticipated.
Generally, this is one of the rare occasions where you will see all you need to see that is good about this movie in the trailer.- Was this review helpful to you?
