LOVEFiLM Review Paranormal Activity 2

  • 3.5 stars out of 5

    By Tegan Kniveton from LOVEFiLM

A prequel to 2009's Paranormal Activity, this supernatural horror is a worthy follow up.

After seeing the first film on DVD I was looking forward to a trip to the cinema to watch paranormal activity 2, the start of the film was slow but the anticipation of being scared witless kept my attention, this never happened,Cupboards’ flying open was the only part of the film that made me jump and the pool cleaner with a mind of its own was barely noticed. the rolls of laughter coming from the audience summed up what most thought. By the end of the film I came to realise that I would have been better off saving my money for something more deserving.

This prequel is reasonably entertaining, but not mind blowing or frightening in any way at all, although it is fair to say that the plot details are well scripted - so that the events in Paranormal Activity 1 do start to make more sense. As in the first movie - none of the characters are truly loathsome, so I was slightly concerned about their fate. I really enjoyed the fact that there was little or no background music and that the shaky cam technique was dropped for security camera footage instead. I like its minimalism and think that it is okay, but at the moment, as far as I’m concerned I can take it or leave it as to whether or not I ever see Paranormal Activity 3 and 4.

Felt like I was just watching someones CCTV of their pool whilst they were away. Not much happens round there, not much happens throughout the whole thing actually. If you liked to be spooked - look else where.

Utter rubbish - the first one was novel - this second one is just boring and doesn't even follow the ending of the first one correctly
