Initially due to be released as Pyar To Hot Hai Pyar, director Deepak Bahry's much-delayed feature will convince few it was worth the wait. Uncertain whether it should be a realist insight into inner-city poverty, a treatise on the political power of the Indian mafia, a love story or a thriller, the film meanders between all points, becoming increasingly melodramatic in the process. Ajay Devgan stars as the eponymous orphan whose charitable work in his slum neighbourhood results in him being branded a traitor by mobsters who want him dead. But for all his commitment to the role, Devgan always seems to be a cypher for the plot's endless contrivances.
