It's easy to see what tempted Demi Moore into headlining this overwrought tale of dual personality, as she clearly believed the challenge of playing a New York literati and a French single mother existing within the same mental space would finally establish her acting credentials. But what on earth possessed Ma Vie en Rose director Alain Berliner to embark on such a debacle? To his credit, he maintains the secret of Moore's true identity until the final reel. But Demi is all over the place, with only her wardrobe and equally incredulous beaux signifying her shifting, sleep-induced identity. An embarrassment.

    Original plot

I watched this simply because my best friend told me the main character reminded me of her. I just had to watch to figure out why. But the plot also intrigued, and was in fact the main strength of the film. Acting was adequate, and only real let-down was finding out 'which' of the worlds she inhabited was actually real. Perhaps there could have been a smarter twist at the end?
