This marks Jean-Luc Godard's semi-return to a more commercial way of movie-making, reuniting him with Raoul Coutard, the man who photographed all the early, epoch-making films, and using big-name stars of the time such as Hanna Schygulla, Isabelle Huppert and Michel Piccoli. But despite the often gorgeous imagery, this movie is likely to mystify and bore most viewers. Its central story — about a Polish film director and his crew staying in a hotel — is almost lifted from François Truffaut's Day for Night, except in Godard's hands it is fragmented, vague and still experimental.
Complete pretentious toss. Awful.
