It's a good film...By a customer from Milton Keynes , 07 Aug 2008
[Highly rated reviewer]OK so you're never going to get a film anywhere near as good as the book in this case, I've read the book and is No.1 on my booklist (of about 2!!).
The film is actually satisfying in that it seems to have been given the Hollywood gloss yet has retained the anchor of a spiritual context. There are some parts of the film that made me giggle where Socrates responds to Dan's constant questioning, and other times that make me smile inside (with the wisdom being imparted).
I didn't think that Nick Nolte would suit the role of Socrates (not the image I had in my minds eye), but he doesn't manage to spoil it which is important - so well done Nick!
The film is farily slow but still keeps your attention throughout.
So, why the 5 stars? Well I think they should make more films like this with the powerful medium of movie making that they have. Highly Recommended!!

well worth a watchBy santosha (4 reviews) from Camerton , 14 Jul 2009What a great movie! I would give it 5 stars any time. It is well made, interesting, unexpected and with a good pace. A classically well made film with a very profound message, similar to Wim Wenders work./
Not too badBy alexsantoroemmerson (2 reviews) from Norwich , 22 May 2009Quite predictable but still enjoyable.
Some unexciting 'high-school' writing, but one excellent character that makes it worth watching.
WoW-Insightful and a halfBy ginanainu (1 review) from Leicester , 11 May 2009I loved this movie, I was expecting it to be quite cheesy as it's normally advertised with 'God' loving movies, but it exceeded my expectations way beyond I could imagine and kept me gripped throughout. I reccommend this movie to anyone who is open to the idea of 'letting go' x
peaceful warriorBy Sitingbull (2 reviews) from Liverpool , 23 Apr 2009although i loved parts of this film, from socreetes phylosiphy to the positive messegers of love and peace that could be achieved through enlightend teaching to help mankind, i still felt a little disapointed in the substance of the film. it tried too hard to appease diffrent audience members, who was the target audiance? it even boarded on the cheesy side at times. but that said its sill worth a watch but if you havent already yet read the book, it will hopefully inspire you to do so.
