This film is superb. my daughters loved it. Generations ago, a witch placed a curse on the Wilhern family that would result in the next girl being born into the clan having a Pig snout -- and now young Penelope (played by Christina Ricci) has fallen victim to the vengeful hag's unsightly grudge.

When newspaper reporter Lemon (played by Peter Dinklage) runs a misleadingly frightening photograph of the kind-hearted Penelope, her parents, Jessica (played by Catherine O'Hara) and Franklin (played by Richard E. Grant), lock the girl away in a sprawling mansion.

Though it is said that the curse can be lifted if a man of Penelope's status takes her hand in marriage, every man who lays eyes on the girl takes flight at first sight, never to return -- until the arrival of Max (played by James McAvoy), that is.

An unrepentant gambler with a heavy heart and an ulterior motive for meeting Penelope, Max is unexpectedly caught off guard by the pig-nosed girl's disarming charm, and suddenly flees before having carried out his plan.

Now determined to throw caution to the wind, and explore the world on her own terms, Penelope makes the acquaintance of independent-minded delivery girl Annie (played by Reese Witherspoon), who quickly agrees to join her newfound friend on the ultimate journey of self-discovery.

    well worth renting out.

This is a amazing film that most children aged 5-10 would love so much.

Basicly the film is about a girl called Penelope. She is born into her family with pig ear and nose. Penelope just wants to be normal like everyone else, but can the curst be broken? Find out and watch the film. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT...

  • Modern Fairytale

My 7 year old loved this film, so much so that she would like the DVD. It's definitely a modern day fairytale, predictable but nice to watch with young children. It would probably be enjoyed by most little girls.

Edward Scissorhands, Pushing Daisies this most certainly was not!!

Penelope a modern day ''Beauty and the Beast'' for lack of a better comparison was dull, clunky, poorly acted and worst of all had no heart. I persisted with this film purely because I love Fairy Tales to my very core and have never grown out of them. However this was no fairy tale. I could not even muster the enthusiasm to call it a nightmare. It was just dull on every level. The message about 'learning to love yourself' was so trite and forced I wanted to get some silicone implants, collagen lips and botox just to balance the preaching of this film. Christina Ricci was bland and doe eyed for the entire movie. Oh how I missed Wednesday Adams! And there was no chemistry whatsover between the leads. Macovoy what happened?

I cant be bothered to write anymore about this film other than to say it was dull, I was bored and I feel dissapointed.

A thoroughly engaging and funny fairytale. With all the cast have fun, the cinematography and direction overall a joy to watch, and a decent storyline to boot. Though the moral messages are shouted off screen. It's a pleasant watch and entertaining as well.

This ones pretty good. Its funny, I like the way its written, like a messed up fairy tail. James McAvoy pulls of a mean American accent - and is a fit as always in this! Rent if you love the McAvoy... I do!
