Never got the fuss about the Singing Detective, which largely seemed to be based around a single character. Pennies From Heaven has got four key characters, the husband, the wife, the teacher and the tramp. Plus when this was first shown, the shock of the singing (this was the 70s after all when realism was at its height) inbetween the dialogue was so much more shocking and delightful. Bob Hoskins and Jonathan Pryce went on enormous careers as a result, apart from the less flexible Michael Gambon in Singing Detective were there any other actors of note in that?
