    In this heartbreaking romantic melodrama, Irene Dunne looks back over the highs and lows of her marriage to Cary Grant as they prepare to part. It's a story that will clutch at your heart and it's all expertly controlled by master director George Stevens, but don't watch if the deaths of young children (albeit dramatised) are upsetting to you. Grant gives a lesson in screen acting and was rightly Oscar-nominated for a superb, subtly-shaded portrayal that keeps sentimentality at bay. If you can take it, this is quite a viewing experience.

    Not a classic

    The occasionally outstanding scenes are held together by a very thin and at the end almost offensive story, which I suppose could be excused by being dated.
