Now here's a thing. Percy the Park Keeper (wouldn't have had the same ring if it had been Dave or Norman, would it?) is a man who seems to have no other human contact (except for his auntie who sends him inappropriate knitwear) and works in a park untroubled by visitors. He lives in a shed with no plumbing or sanitation and communicates like Doolittle with all the cutesy woodland creatures around him.
Mercifully for the pre-schoolers that this is aimed at, the mental health and social issues raised by Percy's hermit-like existence are entirely irrelevant and Nick Butterworth's charming books are faithfully rendered in this DVD.
Jim Broadbent's soothing and avuncular voice talents will have you and your children entranced, the animation enhances the original artwork and the stories are positive and unthreatening.
But I do think that Percy's employers should pay attention to this socially isolated man and do a risk assessment on his accommodation.
My four year old son loved this. We had already read the stories from the books but he still enjoyed it.
