I really don't know how to express our total enjoyment of this film - the acting, filming, settings - everything was superb. We watched both discs, one after the other when we really ought to have been doing other things, so engrossed were we. A total treat!- Was this review helpful to you?

(39)Utterly boring!!!
By jennyragnall (2 reviews) , 11 Dec 2011I sat all the way through the 2 episodes on the first disc convinced that eventually there would be some point to it all. When the second disc came, I couldn't face any more and sent it back unwatched.- Was this review helpful to you?

Intriguing and absorbing
By a customer , 23 Aug 2011I had forgotten just how much the camera loves Mathew MacFadyen. This beautifully shot film came way before his Mr Darcy fame, and looking at him in this series, you can see why he was so covincing in the lead role in the most recent Pride and Prejudice. The storyline is complex, the characters equally so, with several different stories all linking members of the same family. Michael Gambon has some great lines, but so does Timothy Spall. Lindsay Duncan and Toby Smith are marvellous - there is so much to praise in this series. The plot, the characterisation, the country house settings, plus the side plots of the sisters during the war - just watch it and let it absorb you. It will change the way you look at your own family tree.- Was this review helpful to you?

Perfect Strangers
By superhog (1 review) from Rye , 28 Jan 2011Stephen Poliakoff's films are like really good books. It was lucky we only got 1 disc at a time otherwise we would have seen all six episodes straight off. The photography is very interesting, the story line compelling and the interaction between the characters develop well. I felt like a stranger myself sucked into the story but ignored by all the characters.
Wonderful.- Was this review helpful to you?

Brilliant Production
By a customer from Lincoln , 11 Feb 2010A fabulous film. Well thought out script with top rate actors. Throughly enjoyed the first disc. Can't wait to watch the second disc.
Second Disc was just as good as the first.
An Excellent Production.- Was this review helpful to you?

Very enjoyable
By Fastfingers (42 reviews) from Birmingham , 11 Sep 2009Great characters, great storyline, great acting, great atmosphere, all leading up to a rubbish ending (but that's the only bad bit about it, that the 'reason' for the bad relationship between two of the main characters should be so flimsy). I'd still watch it again though because the dialogue is just brilliant - and because I was enthralled by Lindsay Duncan's perfect diction.- Was this review helpful to you?
