Most helpful review Jim Jarmusch Box Set - Vol. 1

Jim Jarmusch is an acquired taste. Typically, not much happens, but it is curiously, hypnotically compelling. Not recommended for those who enjoy McG films, recommended if you like Wim Wenders

Totally love Jarmusch's films! Permanent vacation with it's cast of characters, centred around the main character Charlie Parker. We hear his life story but don't hear the story of the lonely, eccentric and crazy people he encounters, while wondering aimlessly around Manhatten. The setting, atmosphere and pace of the film is perfect, with the story it provides a world that's not quite where it's expected to be, which is quiet, archaic and distanced from the normal every day world of shoppers, commuters, workers and mass media. Alloyishia? plays a brilliant role and it's an outstanding film.

It could be seen to be slow and possibly not for everyone, but it portrays an interesting view of a young man's lonely wanderings around New York.

Alofonso has no direction, is quirky and into Jazz such as Charlie Parker and Earl Bostic, and I dont blame you if you laugh at him dancing. The actor is actually playing a similar version of himself in real life - he has no family and drifts from place to place.

It's great for Jarmusch's first film and he shows a unique perspective, but he has done better things with more storyline such as stranger than paradise and down by Law (with Tom Waits).

A film that will appeal to those of us who express ourselves in different ways and will never quite fit in in life no matter what we do, like Alfonso.

Clearly a film made at the start of Jim Jarmusch's career, yet contains all the tell tale ingredients. Truly bizzare, utterly watchable!

Not his best but showed the potential and is a great introduction to the world of Jarmusch.
