a fine follow up to the original its a shame the others after did not keep this up lol.
The original Phantasm had some great original ideas and some stylish direction, but as a story it wandered all over the place. In terms of ideas Phantasm 2 doesnt really add anything substantial, and is really just a standard 'more of the same, but bigger, better' sequel, but with it's increased budget and more coherant storytelling this is a slightly more enjoyable film than it's predecessor. The makers have also added a nice line in tongue in cheek Evil Dead-style humour (without the film descending into a complete comedy) with some gung-ho tooling up of the heroes (check out the four-barrel shotgun!) and an amusing chainsaw duel. Not a classic, but enyoyable horror hokum.
