A strange light in the sky gives small-town mechanic John Travolta paranormal powers in director Jon Turteltaub's feel-good sci-fi fable. As scientists attempt to evaluate his sudden escalation to genius, Travolta battles against an obvious script to focus all his energies on wooing divorced single mother Kyra Sedgwick. Hidden among the waves of sentiment are some genuinely funny moments, but, for all its well-meaning tear-jerking, this tribute to human potential is less than phenomenal.

    • Radio Times
  • "...[Travolta gives] a sympathetic performance....The grinning, straightforward appeal is still very much there....Sedgwick is classy..."

Fantastic film - I don't know how I missed this one in 1996!?

John Travolta is a fantastic actor and he doesn't disappoint in this film. Robert Duvall is also very good.

It was good to watch a film without any sex and voilence in it!!

This film is extrodinary in that JT get's some extra powers (telekenetic I think), but a true love story behind it, which all ends in tradegy.

Do yourself a favour and rent this title - you will not be disappointed.
