The makers of the 'Dummy' instructional books and videos have struck again, this time with a beginner's guide to Pilates. The gist of the Pilates workout is to engage what is known as the powerhouse (the stomach and other core muscles of the body) to gain strength and, in the process, shed extra pounds. A specific method of breathing (through the nose only) is also employed during key moments of the movements. The method of building strength that was first developed by German athlete Joseph Pilates has become a close second to yoga in popularity. Pilates originally invented spring tension machines that use straps for the feet and supports for the back. This 'Pilates For Dummies' program provides mat work, or moves that can be executed on the floor. This makes for an easy, at-home introduction to an exercise regime that is said to create the long, lean dancer's body.

This was my first 'Get Fit' DVD so wasnt sure what to expect but Im very pleased. Very easy to follow, not too fast paced for a beginner like myself and wokred up a nice sweat..all I was looking for really.
Recommend as a good starter DVD.
Very nice and easy to follow but not much of a challenge. I personally don't think this would burn fat if done once a day, possibly if followed 3 times a day! Unfortunately, I didn't feel much in the way of being worked. The moves were demonstrated very clearly and really well and if the presenter's body shape was anything to go by then get ready for chisled, defined muscles and the moves of a dancer. Great for some end of the week relaxation.
