Unusual, carefully handled period crime melodrama which needed a slightly firmer grip.
I had waited a long time to see this film, when it eventually arrived I was disappointed. I have an interest in reading real life stories of Victorian poisoners and murderers, and although I realised this was not real life, I though the story would grab my interest, but no, although having a cast of very good British actors, I found the story very weak, mostly centred around the pub (a bit like Coronation St/Eastenders!). Hardly any details about the actual poisoning.
