Piranha 2 - The Spawning

In this sequel to Joe Dante's PIRANHA, unsuspecting vacationers at tropical Club Elysium find they are the main course for a school of deadly piranha fish genetically engineered as weapons by the government. One of the scientists responsible for the carnage teams up with a diving instructor to destroy the killer piranha, which have been crossed with flying fish and can launch themselves out of the water to attack. PIRANHA 2 was James' début. He was discovered by a group of producers who witnessed his genius for directing maggots on a prosthetic dismembered arm using electrical shocks while he was working in special effects and art direction for low-budget science-fiction films. The producers were sufficiently impressed to offer him a job as director on PIRANHA 2, which was filmed on location in Jamaica.

    • Feeble low-budget sequel, the first feature of a director who went on to make more successful action movies, including Terminator and Terminator 2.

not as good as the first one

The film is simply not the class act that the first one is. I'm guessing that they didn't have the lavish budget of the first one. James Cameron has ... read more »

      ... it's a fish.

"Piranha" was borderline stuff , but this film totally goes over the top as mutant piranha fish return to terrorise a... read more »

With Saw V and Midnight Meat Train both currently thrilling cinema goers across the country, we started reminiscing about the best horror movie taglines ever. A tagline, as you probably know, is the one-liner that appears on an ad, a poster or a commercial that sums up the appeal of a movie. Once upon a time yours truly was involved in a film society and we dabbled in this art ourselves. I recall coming up with a tagline for James Whale’s black and white classic Bride of Frankenstein ( Read more
