[Highly rated reviewer]I thoroughly enjoyed the first 'Pirates' film, but 'Pirates 2' leaves you with a faint suspicion that maybe you should have got more out of it.
Whilst it could never be accused of failing to deliver one spectacular action sequence after another, what it sadly lacks is continuity. You are rushed from one death defying and in many cases nigh on impossible stunt to the next, whilst dropping in a tasty character development to keep you wanting more.
At well over 2 hours long it still feels rushed, as if they need to fit in as much as possible. In this sense, it is very like other "second in the trilogy" films, and ends with a suitable cliff hanger to keep you salivating till next summer.
Despite the bumpy ride it ticks all the boxes for fantastic set pieces, beautiful scenery and swashbuckling action. Johnny Depp is as over the top as ever, (and brilliantly so), and Bill Nighy provides a very suitable counterpart in tentacle faced Davy Jones, complete with his crew of aquatic monstrosities.
The script contains some genuinely funny moments, and plenty of intriguing references to make you want to watch the original again. All in all, a good way to pass an evening, but dont go expecting any dramatic changes from the original.

Not goodBy bfocst (3 reviews) from Basingstoke , 02 Aug 2009Since I might actually want to give something 5 stars, I just can't score this one low enough.
It contains nothing of the first films purpose or storyline, but was as others have noted falling from one action scene to the next without any real connection. I made it 30 odd minutes through and I might never bother to watch the end. There is no reason for this films existence but to generate more cash for the makers.
Johnny Depp is wonderful, in fact, many performances, what I saw of them, were descent enough; there was just no story to make me care where they were going or why.
good film bad discBy QwerkyKid (19 reviews) from Barry , 28 Jul 2009I was really looking foward to the film and was enjoying it up until it started to jump and skip so my overall viewing was not very good. if the disc had been treated properly and not so badly damaged then I think I would have been able to enjoy the film a lot more. if you ever get a disc that so much as looks faulty then send it back straight away and request a different disc. I can't wait to see the next Pirates of the Caribbean film. thanks
