I'm Hooked Captain.. this is another 'Pirates' to treasure..

Though this is a long voyage (at 168 minutes !) in many ways 'Worlds End' is even more immense and pleasurable than 1 and 2, the humour and story plot (ably aided by our home talent of McKenzie Crook, Kevin Mcnally, Keira Knightly.. etc etc) is superb.

Without spoiling anything, the lords of the Pirates from the four corners of the globe must put their internal squabbles and infighting on the back burner (not apparently an easy task !) to collect together to fight off the dominance of the East India Trading companies grip on the high seas, and their popular (ha !) member Jack Sparrow must (to their dismay) be rescued from the grip of the Kraken to aid them in their endeavour.

For our family this isn't just a film... it's an event... and we were thoroughly and absolutely absorbed by this. It is fantastic, entirely what cinema is about and shouldn't be missed by anyone young or old.

    A most definate recommendation !!

    Pirates of Tedium: Without End!

Probably the worst film of the 3, the plot is awkward and does not flow well. The film and characters are by this point in the trilogy neither compelling nor interesting, and in the case of Keira Knightly, utterly insipid and irritating. Had Knightly been replaced with a half decent actress of some kind perhaps the film could have been saved. Although Depp is watchable as ever, and provides occasional respite from the creeping boredom, it is not enough to carry the film for 3 hours. There are no real problems with the supporting cast, but the script is diabolically poor, and the humour akin to flogging a dead horse in a way that is not at all comedic. Going beyond “suspense of disbelief to tell a good adventure story”, much of the plot and special effects sequences are more on the side of 'stupid nonsense'. The film slowly drags itself through one after another contrived plot twist and extended special effects sequence in an attempt to create a sense of the epic, toward which it fails miserably. There are a few scenes which I did like, such as the surreal plane of nothingness which Depp finds himself on, and the part where they sail to the edge of the map. But in retrospect these bits merely hint toward how much better the film could have been, and how awful it really is. It is probably worth watching for the spectacle, but I was glad when it was finally over.

It just should have been so much better

Let me start out by saying that the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Disneyland is one of my favourite places on the planet, and that I absolutely adore Johnny Depp for his charm, wit, acting ability and the fact that he's really easy on the eyes. However.... this is not a great film. All the ingredients were right (all hail the Great Bill Nighy), and some scenes do look gorgeously spectacular but somehow the overall movie has come out in a bit of a mess. Layers of sub-plots, acres of unnecessary non-exposition footage, and I got the feeling that the writers and directors didn't actually like some of their most popular character creations. I LOVED Curse of the Black Pearl, and I really wished they'd stopped there.

    Weakest of the three...

It's way longer than it should be for a start, Knightly and Bloom don't have enough presence to really carry the film here, and it shows. The script itself is very weak in places and many of the jokes begin to wear thin in their third outing. I also imagine a fair few people - kiddies mainly - would get a bit confused regarding the plot.

Despite that. Depp and Rush did well considering what they had to work with and some of the action sequences were very nicely done.

It's not as bad as everyone says it is, and it does tick most of the boxes, but it is the weakest of the three by a mile.

    Mess of a movie

Could have done with a ton more editing, and a script with a proper story...it just seemd to go on and on and on and on...none of it making much sense or engaging me in the slightest....it was a mess of half baked ideas, I read that they were making most of it up dialogue wise as they went along as too many rewrites had gone on before & the deadline to begin filming was fast approaching so they just went for it and kept going until they had enough to fill a few hours. I could not honestly tell you what the story was all about...it came and went and left me none the wiser....I was very dissapointed as the 1st in the series was excellent & that one made sense too

This is what pirate movies should be like!

POTC just keeps getting better! The third instalment ROCKS! The movie is filled with witty humour, the same lovable rogues we've grown to love (but just more to love as the film is welcomingly long), a superb plot, LOTS of fantastic pirate action and even a speedy marriage while all the sword and swash buckling is taking place (can you guess whose?). The movie is packed with suprises left, right and centre and just PURE ENTERTAINMENT ! The end is a bit of unexpected surprise, but I can't wait to see number 4! Being a pirate movie fan, this film should be an example/template for future pirate flicks....it just doesn't get any better! YES IT'S THAT GOOD!!! WATCH IT, YOU'LL BE LOVING THE RIDE ALL THE WAY TO THE END!!

Fan of the first two - don't waste your time on 3rd visit

OK, so one star may be a little harsh - as a stand-alone film it maybe deserves 2, but I can really find little to recommend in this epic snooze-a-thon.

It is, without a doubt, the worst threequel since Matrix Revolutions punished us with tedium in 2003.

Jack Sparrow has lost all of his creative and comic edge that made the first two movies so enjoyable, and Bloom and Knightley are more wooden than the timbers of the Black Pearl itself. As for the plot - what plot? If you look back on it, it makes absolutely zero sense as a coherent film, but I won't post spoilers here. This was a child's stream of consciousness put on screen with hundreds of millions of dollars pumped into it, where less could have been a lot more.

And as for the humour of the first two films, I laughed twice during the entirety of this film, once at a Sparrow one-liner, and the other time when a monkey holds a parrot at gunpoint. If you don't find that funny, please don't even consider watching this... Makes the disappointing Spider-Man 3 look like this Summer's masterpiece. Roll on Transformers...

    Toilet

What a shame. The first two films were great swashbuckling fun. This film is tedious, overcomplicated drivel. And Kiera Knightly STILL couldn't act her way out of a paper bag.

    Rubbish.

If Gemma Atkinson Were A Movie...

    Easy enough to look at.

    Makes no sense whatsoever.

    Not that bad

    I'm quite pleased.

The critics said it was awful but it wasn't, infact it was quite good.

It had alot to live up to, and it wasn't as good as the first, but it held it's own.

The sub plots were a bit confussed and a little lengthy, but the effects were fantastic and Johnney Depp played Captain Jack fantasticly as usual. Even Orlando Bloom looking like he might act.

Best Pirate award goes to Keith Richards as Jacks Dad.

Go watch it, you be plesently suprised.

    Boring mess of a movie

The first movie was amazing, I loved it, it was such a feel-good adventure with great acting. Even the second movie was good, even though confusing at times and with a silly ending. This thirs installment howveer is a total mess - the story doesn't make any sense, the first two hours have very little action, there are no funny moments at all (just some repeats from the two previous films), and it never gets exciting. What a total waste of time and acting. Watch the first movie one more time instead of wasting three hours of your life on this mess.
