  • Inspiring and entertaining

I watched the short animations on this DVD in chronological order, which wonderfully illustrated to me not only the advancing technology, but the incredible ability of the team in telling stories and evoking emotion through computer animiation. These guys are totally inspiring in their level of dedication, their pursuit of their unique path in life, and supreme talent.

I then watched the the short history feature, where the team recount their experiences of being part of Pixar. This was the most entertaining part of the DVD for me. I found it totally inspiring! I have so much respect for these guys!

    Loved it!!

Some hit and miss episodes on the DVD. Some of which are very funny. Others were less of the standards of Pixar. Ok and worth a view but not at regular Pixar standard.

  • Worth the Effort

It's amazing just how long they have been going. Starting off from Lucas Films, bought for $10 million in 1986, imagine that figure when Wall'E took $800 million worldwide by itself? Knick Knack was the first feature I saw and was 'blown away' by. Some of the first of the thirteen films do seem dated but it is great to chart the progress of this great company. So all-in-all well worth the effort.

Any fan of Pixar's full length animated films (and who isn't?) will want to see this collection of shorts, ranging from their first pioneering efforts in CGI in the 80's (most famously Luxo Jr, the playful desk lamp which forms part of the company's logo to this day), to the original shorts which precede their movies such as Lifted (about a trainee alien abductor), and the spin-offs from their full-length features, such as Mater and the Ghostlight, starring the buck-toothed rusty breakdown truck from Cars.

There are a few reservations though. If you've watched many Pixar movies at the cinema or on DVD then you've probably seen many of these shorts already. It doesn't include the most recent shorts such as BURN-E or Partly Cloudy, and the early shorts, such as the Oscar winning Tin Toy, although entertaining and historically fascinating, are very brief indeed. Notwithstanding these caveats though, I would recommend this collection to any fan of animation.
