Agatha Christie always keeps you guessing--and these two tales of Poirot are typical. Ah, I can hear you say--like all the others! But no, each story, while having some similarity--characters and period to name two--are very different. Both of these have a real twist at the end, and keep you guessing, with Scotland Yard's finest, until the culprit is revealed.
The second one is especially tantilasing, as it shows Poirot on his first case as an private detective.
One of the reasons for the 5 stars is the wonderful scene setting. The films are so evocotive of the 30's, and the Art Deco locations so carefully chosen, as are the costumes. Another reason for the high rating is wonderful chracterisation of the four main actors. Poirot, Hastings, Japp and Miss Lemon are so believable, and the by-play between them so lively, that the mysteries become alive, and remain with you. I could watch them again and again!
