In this action-packed adventure story based on the popular TV series, a villainous Pokemon "collector" is attempting to ensnare the mysterious guardian Pokemon Lugia. In order to summon this mystical creature, he must first capture three powerful elemental Pokemon representing fire, lightning, and ice: Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno--an act that threatens to upset the balance of nature itself. As horrible natural disasters begin to occur all over the world, young Ash discovers that according to an ancient prophecy, he is the chosen one who must save the earth from total destruction--a daunting challenge for any Pokemon trainer. Fortunately, Ash is surrounded by friends he can always count on for support: his faithful electric Pokemon Pikachu, traveling companions Misty and Tracy, and his new friend Melody. Even some old enemies, the nefarious Team Rocket, end up lending a helping hand for a change. This film has a more polished feel than its predecessor, POKEMON: THE FIRST MOVIE, and some impressive computer-animated background graphics.
The main feature is preceded by a new animated short, "Pikachu's Rescue Adventure," in which audiences get to see a variety of wild Pokemon in their natural settings while learning a valuable lesson about cooperation.

Parents may grit their teeth at the prospect of a full-length film with the cuddly Japanese monsters of trading card, video game and TV fame; their big-screen debut could hardly have been worse. The movie actually comprises two films, the first being a virtually plotless short (Pikachu's Vacation) whose eponymous hero, a cute yellow rodent, becomes irritating very quickly. In the main feature, genetically modified monster Mewtwo escapes from the lab and goes on the rampage in an adventure that takes children into this parallel world. The climactic battle is long, repetitious and boring, while the film's anti-violence message is crassly expressed.
I really enjoyed the film. I recomend this film to POKèMON LOVERS! It was just brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd recommend this great piece of international cinema! Though I'd recommend watching it with the directors commentry even more!
It's by the guys who were responsible for dubbing the film into english (though dubbing in its loosest sense). What's funny though is that they have no idea what's supposed to be going on either!
A great film on so many levels!
Animated sequel "Shrek 2" has broken box office records in the US. The film netted $11.8 million (£6.7 million) in a single day, the biggest midweek opening ever for an animated feature. The record had been held by "Pokemon: The First Movie" for five years. A spokesperson for the film's producers, Dreamworks, said these figures "exceeded all of our expectations". Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz return to provide voices for the main characters in "Shrek 2" Read more
