    Magnificent Cornish Nonsense.

The fabulous story of Ross Poldark, who returns from the war in the New World to find his father dead, his home in disarray and the love of his life betrothed to another.

If you're into historical/period-piece drama I'd highly recommend this, a fascinating tale of betrayal, lost-love, gambling and port in 18th Century Cornwall, based on the books by the late Winston Graham. Most of the actors are superb, Robin Ellis is strikingly handsome and very powerful in the lead role, Nicholas Selby is perfectly cast as the devilish local magistrate and businessman Warleggan, and the horses are, in the main, brown.

I seem remember the later episodes/series' to be better, with more villains turning up for Ross Poldark to challenge, but this is a good beginning.

God knows what he sees in Elizabeth though, a drearier bird I've yet to come across on screen, plus far too much foundation make-up; still, love is blind, so it goes....

All-in-all, great 'white shirt 'n breeches' shenanigans, can't wait for the next installment.
