It really does warm my heart to know that I am the first and - fingers crossed - probably the last person to rent this embarrassing attempt at comedy. All of the loathsome characters are there, defying authority through such endearing behaviour as shouting loudly, impersonating shoe-squeaks and trouser-rips, being a manly woman and just being rather dim.

The only reason I thought it worth looking over is because I remembered its extraordinary film references. The director, obviously distraught when he was saddled with a franchise only rivalled by 'Look Who's Talking' for sheer emptiness, decided to fulfil his film school credentials by turning this turkey into a series of 'homages' to cinema classics.

Therefore, in exchange for excruciating blunders by people who should know better, you get mildly amusing references to 'The Manchurian Candidate', Hitchcock set-pieces, 'The Third Man' and Fritz Lang's classic 'The Testament of Dr Mabuse' to name but a few.

The problem is, to see these vignettes, you have to rent 'Police Academy 6'. Better just to see the originals instead.
