"...One of Chan's early hits gets the New Line makeover..." -- Rating: B
Jackie Chan is truly a legend and he does not let us down with his performance in Police Story. Jackie Chan indulges in some slightly unorthodox policing to ensure that he catches the big boss. Sadly his tactics earn him a demotion and the big boss is out on bail due to a technicality.
But, New Jack criminals need a New Jack cop to stop them, and it?s not long before Chan?s new assignment ? protecting the reluctant star witness ? leads him into the usual death-defying stunts involving buses, cars, lots of glass tables, and some good old fashioned kicking.
Jackie Chan really invented the concept of DVD extra features, when, from the early 1980?s, his films ended with deleted scenes while the credits rolled. He is unashamed of making mistakes, and as an actor who always plays his own stunts, he has had a fair share of accidents along the way. Police Story is all round good entertainment ? they don?t make ?em like this anymore!
If you liked Police Story, you may also like to hire [Police Story II], [Rush Hour] and [Rush Hour 2].
Old martial arts films aren't really my thing (modern day films really do make them look rather silly), but I have some time for the truly decent ones - Enter The Dragon, Drunken Master, Police Story, etc. This film will entertain you for a little while but you may well get bored before the end. The 'comedy' sequences are laughable for all the wrong reasons, but some of the stunts do still look pretty cool.
Ignore the nerds that insist this kind of film is still bloody amazing - cause frankly it's not, it's dated to hell. But that doesn't mean it still isn't kinda fun - worth a rental if you can't think of anything better to do.
