Portrait of a region,is a good choice for the title, and this dvd gives a good idea of the different railways and a tramway to be found in the Midlands.Together with the features listed above it also shows Peak Forest,The Robin Hood Line,Crich Trams,Bescot Yard,Tyseley, and the Teddy Boston Collection. All good stuff,Preserved and Modern, enjoy it- Was this review helpful to you?

(2)Portrait of the Midlands in 1994, from a basher's point of view!
By WiseOldBob (37 reviews) from York , 19 Jan 2012This is quite a pleasant collection of short vignettes, voiced over by some amiable types and featuring The National Tramway Museum at Crich, the early days of the Peak Rail, the preserved Great Central, the reopening of the Robin Hood Line and heavy metal around Bescot and Tyseley.
The highlight of this collection though is the unmissable footage of the famous nuclear flask test at the Old Dalby Test Track on 17th July 1984, with 46009 going out in a blaze of glory (quite literally).
Still plenty of large logo abounding with 20s, 37s and especially Peaks in various states of branding but blink and you'll miss the single '40 in the show. There are some preserved kettles on show too, and judging by the mix of some of the smoke I would say that the 'cab-experience' firemen still had a thing or two to learn!
Do be warned though: apart from the Old Dalby stuff everything else is from the mid nineties, so no grainy archive material or memories from when everything really was in black & white.- Was this review helpful to you?
