[Highly rated reviewer]I found this awful....i kept thinking about the fantastic original film, i couldn't help it because the storyline was pretty much copied. The actors were very unconvincing and i didn't care what happened to them (unlike Shelly Winters in the original), the script was very basic throughout with one liners like 'there must be another way out' or 'quick the waters rising' all said without much conviction, i'm afraid i didn't feel for any of them at all. Very very poor re-make IMO, i wouldn't recommend it unless perhaps you hadn't seen the original.

[Highly rated reviewer]This is the ultimate adventure/disaster film. It contains so much suspense and tension. You're always on the edge of your seat and in some parts of the film, you've got yourself literally screaming at the TV. It's magnificent.
In the film all the characters bond, help each other out and by the end they become, like a family. That's good because it shows how good the actors and actresses are. So I think the casting director done an amazing job.
Personally, I found it unfair how Robert (Kurt Russell) dies, when it should of been Nelson (Richard Dreyfuss) because he was going to commit suicide anyway, but it was a good twist to story.
Overall, I loved this film and I would recommend it to anybody.
Not as good as the 1972 original.By Filmhead19 (16 reviews) from Watford , 07 Aug 2012The original of this remake is far more entertaining I personally think...this one just isn't as good as the original 1972 classic. And even though I watched the 1972 original maybe at least 9 years ago, I still freshly remember it as it had characters that you at least cared whether they lived or not. Where as, in this remake...it just didn't hit the mark. The special effects were good but I just didn't care by the end if they survive. I also think that some of the parts in the film are a tiny bit unrealistic (don't want to spoil). But I guess it still desserves a watch, but then compare it to the original (if you haven't already) to see which one is better.

CGI boat turns overBy Kusanagiguy (101 reviews) from London , 13 Jun 2012Original aside this movie buckles under it's own CGI weight with the actors giving unconvincing performances.
Thats the problem with CGI everything looks great but it lacks a physical presence not only for us watching but for the actors who are responding to nothing and thats the problem here.
While a bit of water is splashed around no one really appears fearful which tends to lead to a lot of shouting which is uninteresting when compared to a more emotional responce.
That said this is the very definition of a disaster movie, it's huge specticle, it's just a shame it's so hollow.
For me Poseidon is a sunday afternoon TV watch - u turn the set on and there it is in the background while you do something else
Don't Know About OriginalBy Lottie21 (20 reviews) , 21 Apr 2012I haven't seen the original film, so do not know how good / bad it compares to that.
It is not a brilliant film, but a good film all the same. Lots of action, it seems to drag a little in places, however it is still worth watching!
