She was so good in
By Tom Urie from Scotland , 31 Jul 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
Wonderful. This is one of the funniest, most touching films I've ever seen. Based on Carrie Fisher's semi-autobiographcal novel, Shirley MacLaine and Meryl Streep turn in fantastic performances as mother and daughter at war. Examining the relationship between fading Hollywood legend MacLean and drug addicted Streep, there are many tragic/comedy moments that have you creased up with laughter one minute and choking back the tears the next.- Was this review helpful to you?

Carrie Fisher's Novel?
By MarTheFirst from London , 23 Sep 2006Dir. Mike Nichol's grand tour through Hollywood Babylon still emerges as a savage showbiz satire. Meryl Streep is the selfish actress in celebrity detox who moves back home with her overbearing mother (MacLane) in this thinly-veiled account of Fisher's own poignant relationship with her real-life mother Debbie Reynolds.
Both stars rise to the "bit itchy" one-liner occasion and turn on the glitz, glamour & grit. Excellent performance.- Was this review helpful to you?
