Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock star as sisters who are descended from witches in this uneven black comedy romance based on Alice Hoffman's novel. Kidman is the wilder sibling, while Bullock is the home-loving store owner who falls for Aidan Quinn, the detective who investigates when Kidman's abusive boyfriend disappears. There are nice supporting performances from Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest as the sisters' equally witchy aunts, but director Griffin Dunne — who made the blackly comic Addicted to Love — ultimately fails to make either a moving comedy romance or a funny romantic comedy. Unfortunately, this is The Witches of Eastwick with its humour and sizzle removed.

    Superb

I love this movie. I actually went out and bought it after renting it! I love the story centering around 2 modern day witches (Sandra Bullock and Nicloe Kidman) as they struggle to come to terms with life and a curse that is passed through the generations. The curse means that any man who falls in love with them will die when the sound of the death beetle is heard. I loved the soundtrack for this movie too.

    Not good

This film was bad, surprisingly as it stars two leading actresses. I was really looking forward to watching this and have wanted to see it for a long time. Very disappointing.

    Better than expected

It took me a long time to get to see this film because I thought it would be rubbish, but I was surprised, I actually enjoyed it. A nice warmsy film to watch on cold miserable days. It definitely cheered me up.

This is a gentle love and magic story aimed at the early teen market although if you like harry potter / love stories you will enjoy this film.

Sandra Bulock and Nicole Kidman make the perfect partnership for this film, it is funny as well as sad, one of the best films i have seen and I'm going to go out and buy my own copy so I can watch it over and over again.
