LOVEFiLM Review Predators

The iconic predator is back in this macho jungle adventure, produced by Robert Rodriguez and starring a beefed-up Adrien Brody.

    [Highly rated reviewer]

The directors and writers of this lame addition to the series should be ashamed of themselves! I was so excited that they had decided to resurrect this iconic Alien and its films...what I was greeted with was too long a film with no character, scares or true depth..the characters were terrible, Brody's butch voice emulating Christian Bale's batman husky voice just made me smirk, Fishbourne was a complete joke and made the film worse upon the moment of his arrival. The Predators and the tiny set of so called killer hounds were ridiculous and more like animals featured in Avatar. The jokes and smutty remarks that were dotted around the script completely ruined the whole thing, what should have been a tense, horror filled sci fi piece of film turned out to be a laughable, low budget in appearance piece of Sci-Fi fodder that will be quickly forgotten. I definately won't be purchasing or renting on DVD. Firmly believe that the AVP films, though silly and extreme were better and have far more imagination that this boring and wooden attempt at Sci Fi.Lets hope that the new Alien film brings the genre back where it belongs..

  • Poor casting for lead role sinks this movie

    Rated - 1.5 stars

Adrian Brody is totally unconvincing as a the tough mercenary. The worst casting ever. The fact that they got him to speak with a whispering voice to make him sounds tougher is quite comical. His plaintive eyes (used to great effects in the 'The Pianist') was so distracting it is insulting the the producer would sell him as a tough hero by sending him to the gym. The plot is quite good. Read a review talking of a missed opportunity. Yes it's exactly it. Schwarzenneger, Glover then.... Brody .. please..

Loved it so much that even music couldn't spoil it. This is great if you're into predators. loved original-like jungle setting. Full of twists and mind games.

They have at least made the sensible decision of keeping the original soundtrack. If only they'd kept the original cast, plot, setting and film. Brody is hilarious as a wannabe hard man. Classic Hollywood tactics are still in play as racial stereotypes are reinforced, before the selfsame ethnic characters are killed while the white people survive till the end. Abysmal.

  • It doesn't pretend to be anything new.

I actually rather enjoyed this offering from the Predator series of films. It might not be anything ground breaking but then it doesn't pretend to be. It has some lovely performances and cameos, along with plenty of familiar homages to the original that help move the plot along without giving people chance to go 'we've seen this before'. You have seen it before but this opens the doors for more films and an ever expanding storyline.
