For his follow-up to his acclaimed documentary, Hoop Dreams, writer/director Steve James made this biography of Steve Prefontaine, the Olympic runner who died in a car crash at the tragically young age of 24. Jared Leto does an excellent job impersonating Prefontaine and keeps a straight face while wearing some of the worst hairstyles the 1970s had to offer. R Lee Ermey, best known as the drill sergeant in Full Metal Jacket, plays Steve's running coach. It's fairly engrossing, even if, inevitably, there is no real third act.
Documentary-style movie that never quite gets to grips with the charismatic track star, who liked to run from the front but never had the time to live up to his own high expectations.
