LOVEFiLM Review Premium Rush

  • 3.5 stars out of 5

    By Tom Charity from LOVEFiLM

Premium Rush is an object lesson in the virtues of maneuverability, of being light on your feet and in touch with your environment.

This was good and its great to see Joseph Gordon Levitt getting bigger and better roles. Yes its flimsy and light bit worth a watch. Nothing else really to see

By no means a great film or a bad film. Simply a rental that you will watch until the end and totally forget about the day after. Michael Shannon as the villain/dodgy officer is the best thing about this film. Even then I have seen better from him.

  • Crazy rides

The film deserves 3 & 1/2 stars mainly because the rides are nuts and Joseph is a sexy talented actor. Shame there was not much of a plot but the rides are worth a watch, These NY riders are off their heads :)

  • The most corny popcorn movie ever made

Premium Rush is not a great movie. But, then again, it’s certainly not a bad one either. It seems to sit perfectly on that middle ground between the two. It’s about a cycle courier in New York who picks up a package to deliver, only to discover a sinister man also wants it and will do anything to get it. What transpires is a cat and mouse chase through the city. The good guys are easily defined as good and the bad guys are suitably bad. It all plays out like a comic book adventure with plenty of action, chases and the odd bit of sentiment and romance thrown in to the bargain. In many ways Premium Rush is the perfect film. It’s easy to watch, not hard to understand and could probably double as a ‘date movie’ as it would most likely enjoyed by couples (men for the action and woman as there seems to be plenty of topless men!). If you want to rest your mind, get out a big bag of popcorn, pick ‘n mix or your snacks of choice, put your brain ‘on hold’ and enjoy the daftness of the ride.

  • Even better than I hoped it would be

I am a big fan of the action/chase movie (protagonist has something the antagonist wants and chases them to get it) and the 'Fast & Furious' franchise (and I love the Need For Speed series of video games) but what really attracted me to this particular film was the uniqueness of fact that it's done on bicycles. And I wasn't disappointed! Fantastic action, with excellent 'set piece' sequences; good acting, direction, etc. It's not a 'deep and meaningful' film, but then I don't usually watch those anyway. This one's action all the way! Just don't watch the extras before you watch the film. It won't spoil the plot but it will spoil the film a little; though of course I won't tell you why or how!
