    Definitely one for the girls

Coming across as a mix of 'Sailor Moon' and 'Fruits Basket', 'Pretear' is an average, slightly cliched anime series which has three things that keep it from being a bad anime series. Cute boys, great music and the potential to develop into something very special.

The Knights of Leafe must search for the Pretear, a female warrior who has the power to defeat the Princess of Disaster and save the world. Typically, this warrior turns out to be Himeno, a loud, clutzy girl with pink hair and a very short skirt who does not want her world turned upside down, thank you very much. Also typically, her widowed father has recently remarried, and Himeno is not welcomed by her new family, leaving her missing her dead mother to the point where she has conversations with a flower her mother planted. Her powers enable her to 'preet' with the Knights of Leafe one by one - in other words, merge with their bodies to combine their powers. Naturally this involves nude transformation sequences and a new costume each time.

While disc one may not seem anything special, if you stick with it and move on to volume two you'll see that this series has the potential to develop into something more. In volume two the characters' history is developed much more, and we learn more about the history of the Knights and the Pretear herself. Stick with it, and you won't be disappointed.

Captivating, original story with well-developed characters

The character design is good. The story line is original - About 7 soldiers coming to our world to find a 'princess' that can 'pret' with them and use their abilities to stop the demon plants from destroying our world. It is a captivating story with well developed characters. Though some bits makes you wonder why is there a need to pret with the other 7 soldiers?!! Was that neccessary? Weird. All in all, quite good. Waiting for the second volume out.
