...this is a classic chick flick that many of us have grown up loving. Fun and light-hearted (hooker subject-matter aside), it's an entertaining twist on the age-old fairy tale ending. From the moment Julia Roberts appears as a blonde-wigged call girl, to the end scene where she's transformed into a sloaney loafer wearing princess with Richard Gere climbing up the fire escape to claim her, it has you hooked (excuse the pun!). Julia Roberts plays her trademark, sassy broad, with attitude and huge smile, a perfect foil for Gere's character, who rebels against the stereotypical expectations of how a rich eligible bachelor businessman should behave, and struggles with demons to discover his emotions. It's less sexist than you would think - in fact you can ask yourself who rescues who here? ...With classic comedy moments (who can forget the lobster/ slippery sucker moment?!), and a romantic happy ending, it has all the ingredients for a chick flick that will appeal for years to come (it's already 18 years old - scary or what??!)
