Hotshot lawyer Richard Gere chases fame as much as justice in this enjoyably involving courtroom drama from director Gregory Hoblit, based on William Diehl's bestselling novel. But when Gere takes on the high-profile case of a bewildered altar boy (Edward Norton) accused of murdering an archbishop, his cut-and-dried life begins to unravel. Having squared up to a state prosecutor (Laura Linney) who just happens to be his ex-girlfriend, Gere begins to suspect that still waters run deep in his seemingly angelic client. The movie brims with humour and excitement — plus a twist guaranteed to drop jaws — while the performances of Gere and, particularly, the quite electric — and Oscar-nominated — Norton crackle with energy until the very last frame.
An implausible thriller with a twist at its end, but one that diminishes all that has gone before, so that an audience is more likely to feel cheated than surprised.
"...Gere's showy yet mature performance holds the movie together....PRIMAL is the most riveting courtroom drama since 1982's THE VERDICT..." -- Rating: B+
I have seen this film before but never tire of seeing it again. Superb performances from Richard Gere, Laura Linney and especially Edward Norton who, in my opinion, is a very underrated actor.
Edward Norton's acting performance is one of the best I have seen. Storyline is excellent with Richard Gere being at usual high standard. A must.
A very clever twist at the end and I mean right at the end! We enjoyed this one, scary to think that this could happen one day!
Another great performance by Gere, the film kept you on the edge a must see film,With a spooky ending Watched it twice would recommend.

If you like films with a twist you'll love this. Richard Gere and Edward Norton are very convincing. A stylish suspenseful thriller.
Took a while to get going but what a good film excellent twist in the film well worth a watch.
Accomplished and well written courtroom drama which I thoroughly enjoyed and would heartily recommend. Gere is excellent as the cynical yet somehow still idealistic defence counsel and Norton is outstanding as the troubled youth accused of murder. Plenty of twists and turns, and sufficient sub-plots and hidden agendas to keep you entertained right to the very end .. and then afterwards!

Don't miss Ed Norton's perfomance
Gere is as sleazy and unlikeable as ever but quite credible, while Norton turns in a strong if uncomfortable performance.
This film is amazong full stop. Watch, trust me I am nearly a Doctor. I dont give 5 stars easily in fact this is my first but it is worth it 100%
