Anybody older than a teenager may find it hard to swallow this far-fetched fantasy — in which a young American finds a real-life Prince Charming — but it's likely to be lapped up by adolescent girls. Julia Stiles plays a hard-working undergraduate whose dreams of becoming a doctor are threatened when she falls for a handsome fellow student (Luke Mably), who turns out to be the Crown Prince of Denmark. Director Martha Coolidge has created a modern fairy tale, a world in which women can have it all — though they may have to embrace heartache and make sacrifices along the way. It's slushy nonsense overall, but the likeable performances from Stiles and the Prince William-like Mably give it a feeling of warmth.
A tired old romantic plot seems even more wearisome and predictable here, with its stars unable to generate any spark.
If you're thinking of seeing this film - STOP! There are so many other chick flicks that are SOOOOOOO much better eg. Mean Girls, Legally Blonde, Miss Congeniality. We went to the cinema to see this and practically fell asleep half way through! Story = Girl meets prince (unlikely) falls in love, problems, get married.... THE END
How boring!!!
This was a classic love story, and the trouble it causes from being on two different sides of society. It was a little like 'What a girl wants' and 'Princess Diaries' but is still great for all modern cinderella's, great classic comedy and fun loving.
