Princess Blade

Director Shinsuke Sato
Run time 91 mins Certificate 18

10th January 2005

Donnie Yen choreographed the action scenes in this Japanese futuristic meets old school story. I think it has the potential for being a great film only it seemed to condense too much into too little time. The Princess in question was a good character albeit unconvincing as an hardcore swordfighter (her arms are like sticks), but she's cute though. Other than that, a few speeded up fight sequences. The secondary story about the revolutionary bloke were a bit tedious and distracting. Given the choice, I'd opt to watch Versus which does what it says on the box, Princess Blade tried to be something it wasn't and didn't succeed unfortunately, pity.
